21.9.11

handwritten.

Since finishing college I have been trying to make a point of writing a letter every once and awhile to my friends in far away places.  So far so good. Although I have to say my letters tend to turn into an excuse to take a trip to Paper Source...I have good intentions people. I absolutely love the idea behind The Hand.Written.Letter.Project. Their intention was to,
"extend an invitation to designers and creative thinkers alike to simply write and make known their thoughts posed by this situation: in handwritten form and on their stationery (both of which were seemingly expendable to some, their idea taking preference)."

Take a moment to put away your e-mail, and jot someone a little note. No matter how short.

bound.

Summer read...
P.S. The cover artwork is done by this talented lady.
What a coincidence!

9.6.11

dealbreaker.

I (along with many other women) have a serious girl crush on Tina Fey. There, I said it. The words that come out of her mouth make me laugh so hard my eyes tear up. I read her memoir Bossypants while on my trip to California, and I am not kidding, I was laughing out loud on the plane. Probably making the rest of the passengers think I was a little crazy. Oh well. I have the same reaction to 30 Rock...which I can watch over and over again and never tire of.

I was, and still am that girl whose reaction to anything that ends with "-man" is "don't you mean woman?!"
My mother always use to playfully tell my sister and I to lift something "like a man" or pull weeds "like a man." My response...."Do I look like a man?" Thank you Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin (who I'm told looks like my pops) for keeping my pinch of feminism alive.

25.3.11

busy bee.

This has been a hectic week. Don't get me wrong, I love celebrating my birthday and I also love how it turns into a multiple day food/drink/friends fest. Love it. But I am exhausted. Working 40 hours a week + plans almost every night makes a girl tired. I usually curl into bed every night and read until my eyes can stand to be open any longer... but unfortunately my books have been neglected this week. Don't worry my friends I see this in our future.

Current read.

14.3.11

paperback.

What an awesome find! Out of Print pays tribute to classic novels through fashion. Even better, for each shirt sold one book is donated to Books for Africa. Check it.

How comfy does this sweatshirt look...almost as good as the book itself.

4.2.11

printed word.

Cara Barer. Photographer of beautiful, beautiful things.
Check out the photography picture book titled The Book's Story..."a tale of the demise of the printed word as we know it."

31.1.11

book lust.

Greatest discovery ever. A blog solely dedicated to libraries.
Every picture is urging me to run to Powells and add to my book collection...which I already have no room for.

daydreams.

Recently, in the midst of numerous essays, I have caught myself dreaming of what life will be life post-grad. (side note: I have no desire to bore you or my daydreams with the "excitement" of unemployment and the other lovely things that surround most of us post-grads. So I'll keep it at a minimum.)

So instead I have filled my daydreams with lengthy morning strolls around the Pearl & Brewery blocks to purchase some lovely old used book from Powells (maybe even pop into anthro), followed by a walk to Stumptown Coffee for an even lovelier cup of coffee and a comfy chair to read my book. oh and by the way, earlier in my daydream I had already worked out at the gym and gone to a yoga class. I'm pretty sure this has all happened before noon. I know, I'm uber productive in my daydreams.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure this isn't just some post-grad dream, this has been a dream of mine for awhile. But I have been so busy planning things on top of things that I have never truly been able to enjoy a day by myself. A day without a cell phone buzzing or laptop glued in front of me.

So here I am getting to the point. I am taking this never-before experienced, school-free/job-free (hopefully not for too long) time to make days just for myself. Without technology (with the exception of a camera...ooh, maybe my polaroid), and perhaps without my car too. I do so enjoy a max ride.

Unfortunately my first "me-day" (need a better name for it) won't happen for about a month, but at least you will know in advanced how stoked I am!
