cookies.

I was a deprived as a child. Deprived of magnets. My mother believed that papers, art, and photos do not belong cluttered on the fridge. I do not share that belief.

Materials:
- Fallen tree branch, 1-2" diameter
- Strong magnets
- Electric drill and bits
- Saw- pull saw or hacksaw
- two-part epoxy or super strong glue

created at: 05/11/2011

1. Use the saw to cut off 1 - 11/2" medallions from your branch. If necessary, use a bit of sandpaper to clean things up.
2. Use a drill to clear a little hole for your manets to sit. If using the 8x3mm that I have, usa a 5/16" to drill a hole 1/8" into the branch. Usa a piece of painters tape to mark your depth.

3. Mix up the epoxy and glue them in. You will need a glue strong enough to stand up to the magnetic force (probably not a hot glue gun). Make sure to check the polarity of your magnets before gluing them in!
4. Simply allow the epoxy to dry for at least six hours or overnight, and stick them up!

happy branding.

Just discovered the LA based online lifestyle magazine, Collected. One word: awesomesauce. I am so in awe of their simple and beautifully styled magazine. I wish I could keep a copy on my coffee table. Anywho, one article caught my attention in particular. The Official Manufacturing Company, conveniently based in Portland, was featured in their first issue! I have constantly been impressed with OMFG's work (yes, clever coincidence), they have done projects such as the branding of the Ace Hotels (which I have promised myself would be a staycation spot before I go off to grad school) and Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Hit two birds with one stone ladies and gents, check out Collected's sweet style and OMFG!

My favorite excerpt from Collected's interview:
There is a vibe and DIY ethos that seems to radiate from Portland. What do you think makes it such a creative hub? There is a sense of community in Portland that you don't find everywhere. Lots of young and broke creatives trying to make something of themselves, set on a rainy backdrop of some of the most beautiful places in the country. We have amazing food, an incredible music scene and an affordable standard of living...Or maybe it's just in the water.
true that OMFG, true that.

pretty please.

My favorites list will never end. Since I am without a job, heirloom tends to turn into my online shopping bag that will never checkout. I will have to come to grips with that eventually.

all in the detail.

A good friend introduced me to studiomko, a shop on Etsy which sells delicately hand cut map art and city map prints by designer/artist Karen M. O'Leary. My jaw immediately dropped. Not only is her work GORGEOUS, but it is so detailed and unique. I want.
